New Years’ Prayer Request

I realize it is a bit late to request but if you get this in time and if God lays it on your heart, please pray for tonight and Sunday.

Traditionally these are big opportunities when many Jamaicans seem to reflect on their life and eternity. Many may become concerned about their life of sin and relationship with God this past year.

Dad will preach tonight for the watch night service and I will preach tomorrow AM.

Election Update

Thanks for all those who responded to our last email yesterday. After I just sent you the email… that so far, things seem to be calm politically, …. Things seem to now be heating up… Check out this in today’s front page of the Gleaner Paper…

“Political Ombudsman Herro Blair has revealed that, during this past week of islandwide political campaigning, his office has received as many as 30 complaints including shooting, offers of bribe, injury, intimidation and other acts of violence.

Blair said his office has also received reports of stoning of party buses, damage to vehicles, defacing of candidates’ billboards as well as other minor matters.”

So, thanks for your prayers. There’s a lot at stake in this elections & it will be close.

Jamaican Elections

In case you didn’t catch the latest Jamaican news, we have a general election scheduled for Thursday December 29^th. From all indications, it looks to be a very close race. Traditionally this time is one of much violence and intimidation. Yesterday was nomination day and Dad and I had to be out in Spanish Town. We got caught in some long delays of traffic as large emotionally charged crowds were starting to rally in the streets to support their candidate. The news reported no violence and a strong police presence was highly visible. Please keep the nation (and our church family) in your prayers as we approach this date.

Back in Jamaica

Hi everyone,

Yep, we are back in Jamaica after 6 months being back in the States. Thanks to all who prayed for us. We had an incident free trip but I’m sure we must have looked like the Beverly Hillbillies as I tried to lug all the bags of our worldly possessions through the airports. Since coming back, we’ve been battling the over grown yard. Lots of machete chopping, weed eating and mowing and still not on top of it. Still getting settled in with runs to the grocery and bank.

We were met more surprises – $10 US for a gal of milk and a shortage of eggs…. (hmmm, now maybe Mom will let us get some chickens?????) Due to heavy rains the Wednesday evening service was canceled, so our first time to see most of the church family in Spanish Town will be Sun. Morning.

August Update

Reunions of Sorts

We were glad we could travel together this time as a family during our home assignment. We have enjoyed visiting with many of you! We put thousands of miles on the car, but it is still going strong.

We have had many reunions of sorts over the past four months.
Many of Bud’s side of the family live in Indiana, so we’ve enjoyed seeing them while there. The Kay side is coming together August 29th-31st. And having Rick, Lori, and Kaylynn; Dad and Mom Kay; and us here all at the same time from Bolivia and Jamaica was a real special blessing!

Participating in the camp ministries in Wisconsin was a reunion of sorts since Lynda grew up enjoying this camp. Her dad and mom were caretakers of the camp for a time. While there we saw many people who have been involved in the camp ministry over the years. When Lynda’s dad passed away on May 28, we were also
reunited with aunts, uncles, and cousins we haven’t seen in over 20 years. It was a special time seeing many people from the past.
Dad’s funeral was a wonderful testimony of God’s glory. We look forward to the day of our reunion with him in heaven! We rejoice at the timing of our home assignment — having been able to be in the States during this time of taking care of Dad and being with our mom.
Reunions are special. The older we get, the more we appreciate being able to spend precious time with loved ones. Soon we will be reunited withour loved ones in Jamaica. Please pray for our transition back into the culture and ministry there. We look forward to what God has in store for the next three years. May we be found faithful.

Wa Gwaan?

“Wa Gwaan?” is Patois for “What is going on?” As we have been in the States, we have been so thankful for the ministry opportunities that God has provided for us. We have been able to speak in many churches, share lessons at camp, and be involved in VBS ministries.
We also enjoyed clearing out the basement, greenhouse and garages as well as staining and dry walling at the Nelson homestead.
School is in full swing now. After stopping by Illinois, we will head down to Indiana August 28th. Our whirlwind tour is coming to an end. God has been so faithful with His help and strength. Thanks for your prayers and support.

Looking Back

We are looking back and thanking God for sending the work team in January from Lynda’s parents’ church.

They were able to pour four more columns for the church. Altogether there are nine pillars standing with three to go. All this rebar, cement, steel, stone, and sand is put together to make strong pillars for the church building.

I can’t help but wonder if my life could be likened to a pillar. What kind of pillar am I? Am I like the ones that were poured by the previous owners and builders—weak and not able to withstand pressure or am I like these newly poured pillars— straight and strong by continually reading God’s Word and making prayer a priority. I am challenged to spend more time with God, so He can better use me

for His glory.

Looking at the Present

Looking to the present time, we continue to prepare for Sunday school classes and preaching. February is also the month for Bud’s boy’s club. Please pray for the boys safety during this time. They will be making survival bracelets and doing some more repelling and zip-lining with some sling shot practice thrown in as well. We desire to see God at work in teaching them how to survive in this life, hitting the target of their hearts with God’s truths and being saved. Immediately followingboy’s club will be the 2:7 discipleship class. Please pray for Champ and Zoe as they complete this course that they will be able to establish a quiet time and continue to grow by reading God’s Word

We thought wwould include our itinerary forwhen we are in the States. It is listed below. We covet your prayers for us we embark on this whirlwind of an adventure. Our prayer is that God will be glorified in everything that is said and done. We look forward to visiting

Bud’s Concussion

Hi All,

It’s been crazy here — as usual:) We have had a lot happen and just trying to keep up has been a challenge, SO many of you have received an update from Dad Kay about my dear husband. We are glad that he has written to ask for prayer as Bud is not quite back to normal yet.

Many of you have written wondering about details. I am sorry I did not write to let you know of his injury. He was outside two weeks ago Tuesday playing flag football with JD and Dana on our concrete driveway. Bud took a bad fall and his head is what hit first and then bounced back and hit again. He lost his vision for a few seconds and could not move. His body went into shock because all of his muscles were strained by the fall. Afterwards he felt pain in his neck and all through the jaw area and his head felt heavy. Thankfully it did not split open, but it did soften the area around where he hit. He’s struggled with vertigo for about two weeks. He slept for one week. He is much better but can’t take any jolt of any kind and we would ask for prayer that even though he feels better that he would not do something that would prolong the healing and bring the vertigo back. This is the first day in two weeks that he’s gone anywhere. Thanks for your care and your concerns. We have a team coming Friday and everyone but me of the four of us has bad colds. God is always faithful to see us through.
